Credit was supposed to help us realize our dreams. Instead, predatory lenders are rapidly closing off the opportunities that a democracy ought to nurture. Seventy-six percent of Americans are serious debtors. At least 1 in 7 is already being pursued by debt collectors. U.S. student debt is more than $1 trillion, median household debt has risen to $75,600 and much of it can never be repaid in our lifetimes. Panel members will discuss the consequences, and the possibilities for debt resistance.
