Storm Debris can Damage Your AC
The summer may be coming to an end, but many of us are still using the air conditioner during these dog days of summer. With the heat here in Chicago we have also had extremely high humidity and powerful storms. The weather seems to be catching up on all the rain we missed out on earlier this season during the drought that spread across the Midwest! The rain is welcome, but the damage these storms can cause is not!
Hurricane Winds in the Windy City
The hurricane in Louisiana brought high winds up through the Windy City, and those winds tore down trees and branches all across the Chicagoland area. All of this debris creates quite a mess, and if it becomes lodged in the air conditioner, it can cause some costly damage.
Storm Debris Causing Obstructions within the AC
Many HVAC technicians have been reporting air conditioner damage caused by these storms and quite frankly, it could have been prevented. The problem is that many homeowners don?t know that they should be checking their air conditioner for debris before turning it on! One homeowner in particular had a large branch lodged in the condenser fan that caused the motor to burn out when he attempted to run the system without removing the obstruction! He had to call out a professional and pay hundreds out of pocket for a repair that could have been prevented if he had simply taken a peek inside his air conditioner before turning it on.
Dislodge the Debris from Your AC
Don?t spend your money on unnecessary repairs and protect your air conditioner from damage! Simply perform a visual inspection of the unit after every major storm and if any debris is in the unit or appears to be causing an obstruction either remove it yourself or call out a professional to perform the cleaning for you. Taking this extra, simple step could save you money by preventing unnecessary repairs.
