Red Sox, Rays battle back-and-forth on Twitter after controversial call

The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays battled back and forth ? via their official respective Twitter accounts ? after a controversial call in the eighth inning preserved a 2-1 Rays win and put Tampa Bay back on top of the American League East standings.

Red Sox pinch-runner Daniel Nava attempted to tag up on?Brandon Snyder ?s fly ball to short left-center with one out in the bottom of the eighth,?but he was called out by home plate umpire Jerry Meals. Replays clearly showed that Nava was safe.

Immediately after the win, the Rays? official Twitter account rubbed it in:

That earned this response from the Red Sox?s account:

Red Sox manager called it a ?terrible call. We should still be playing.? And even Red Sox owner John Henry chimed in with a tweet:
