Summary
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the implementation of marketing and communications for Grace Cathedral. This position reports to the Canon Director of Development and will include collaboration with the Dean of Grace Cathedral, who is CEO; internal colleagues; trustees; and other cathedral volunteer leaders. Primary responsibilities are to develop and manage a communications program to support the cathedral?s developing six-point strategic plan for growth and its correlating programs; to interpret, strengthen and regulate the application of the cathedral?s brand strategy, positioning and identity; and to create and manage a budget for these activities.

This is a new position for Grace Cathedral, and therefore, we expect the assistant director will have the opportunity to influence and be responsible for the development of a cohesive communications program. The incumbent is also responsible for managing the overall communications, providing guidance to other individual departments in the cathedral and guiding these internal organizations to work collaboratively, consistently and according to brand strategy. The majority of this internal collaboration will occur in the areas of development, cultural events and to an extent, the office of the congregation, which oversees all pastoral and liturgical work.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications will oversee the following functions and tasks:

Develop and implement a strategic communications program
Create a comprehensive marketing and communications program with a correlating budget to:
? Best position the cathedral in the San Francisco Bay Area, and on a national level, as a vibrant community dedicated to the spiritual development of this community and the important role of the arts, education and social outreach in our mission.
? Foster a high level of engagement with the unique market segments of Grace Cathedral with messages that are meaningful, relevant and based on the foundation of a strong brand image.
? Recognize the brand enhancing opportunities of events, programming and activities in the life of the cathedral and develop them into communications projects or tools that will build awareness and broaden the reach of the cathedral?s position.
? Efficiently and effectively support the specific communications needs of various departments and initiatives, including development, our website, cultural events and the Shop at Grace Cathedral.
? Create and implement an effective social medial strategy that supports the strategic plan and dramatically expands and then maintains momentum for Grace Cathedral presence and influence online.
? Evolve and implement our online newsletter, currently designated ?Cathedral Highlights.?
? Monitor and manage media relations through relationships with key media (broadcast, print and online) important to the organization; respond to inbound inquiries based on strategy and direction of the Dean and other key leaders; and proactively develop media-based opportunities to leverage the activities and events developed, sponsored or hosted by the cathedral in support of its brand.

Strengthen the brand identity of Grace Cathedral
? Manage the message, look and feel of Grace Cathedral materials. Maintain consistency in both content and the overall graphical style elements of all cathedral communications ? from print materials to online marketing, advertising and correspondence.
? Work with digital and graphic designers to create design concepts for cathedral-wide projects.

Required Qualifications
? At least 5 years of professional experience in a strategic role in marketing and communications. Agency and corporate experience is highly desirable.
? Bachelor?s degree or higher.
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write marketing copy.
? Ability to effectively set priorities with measurable goals and to communicate results to colleagues and executive leadership.
? Strong collaboration and relationship skills.
? Strength in work ethic, team orientation and commitment to quality.
? Ability to edit graphic and digital design files, and experience in the non-profit sector as a professional and/or as a volunteer are highly desirable.

Work Schedule
? Full-time exempt position, Monday through Friday. Limited flexibility is possible. Some weekend and evenings required for special events.
