Complaint against Mexican president rejected (AP)

MEXICO CITY ? Mexico's top election body has rejected a complaint by the Institutional Revolutionary Party that President Felipe Calderon violated the law when he said some members of the opposition party would be willing to make a pact with drug traffickers.

The PRI contends that Calderon illegally campaigned in favor of his National Action Party when he made the comments recently to The New York Times. Mexico holds presidential elections in July 2012 and the law prohibits official campaigning until February.

Members of the Federal Electoral Institute on Saturday ruled by 4-2 margin that the PRI's complaint was not valid.

PRI representative Sebastian Lerdo de Tejada said the party would appeal.

Polls show the PRI favored to win the election.
